Peter Porter: Contents page Peter Porter (b.1929) was born and educated in Brisbane. He left for England in 1951, and he lived in London for most of the rest of his life, where he married and had two children. He has worked mainly in journalism and advertising, and since 1968 has supported himself by his writing, reviewing widely and broadcasting on radio and television. He has published over a dozen books of poems, and won numerous prizes. His relationship to his home country is ambivalent, and he has made it clear that he prefers the consolations of civilisation, particularly European civilisation with its literature, music, opera and sense of history, to life in the bush. |
