Philip Mead (b.1953) was born in Brisbane and educated in Queensland, the UK and the US. He has been associated with poetry publishing, particularly little magazines, since 1972. From 1987 to 1994 he was Poetry Editor of Meanjin Quarterly magazine and Lockie Lecturer in Australian Writing at the University of Melbourne. He has edited, with John Tranter, the new Penguin Book of Modern Australian Poetry (1992). He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the School of English, Journalism, and European Languages at the University of Tasmania.
