J S Harry: Contents page

J S Harry (b.1939) was born in South Australia, and has lived in Sydney for most of her life. she has had a variety of jobs including editing the ABC Radio National poetry program, 'A First Hearing', and has been a writer-in-residence at Australian National University. Her first book of poems, The Deer under the Skin (1971), was awarded the Harri Jones Memorial Prize and chosen as the Poetry Society’s Book of the Year. A Dandelion for Van Gogh was shortlisted for the National Book Council Awards in 1985 and the Adelaide Festival Poetry Awards in 1986. The title poem of her fourth Book, The Life on the Water and the Life Beneath (1995) won the PEN International Lyne Phillips Poetry Prize. J. S. Harry has published six volumes of poetry. Her Selected Poems (1996) was a co-winner of the New South Wales Premier’s 1996 Kenneth Slessor Poetry Prize.
